Marleen Collection – The evolution of a style by Kevin Kahan

‘When we came up with the concept for the shoot, I said it would take a really special model to carry off each stage of the eight-cut journey’ reveals Kevin Kahan, three times Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year. ‘I loved Marleen from the moment I met her and knew she could bring my work to life.’

As an actress, Marleen Mathews relished the opportunity of taking on a different persona with each haircut. ‘I’ve never had my hair that short so I saw it as a new challenge…it felt very liberating to discover all these new characters that are normally tucked away insider myself – in a way it was sad to say goodbye to them when we moved on to the next cut!’

Kevin’s concept of working with a muse to create eight standalone haircuts is a new approach for a competition shoot – and that was reflected in the creative energy and buzz of excitement on the shoot day.‘I really felt part of the team’, said Marleen. ‘Modelling can be a cold and isolated experience, but working with Kevin and his team felt really warm and engaging.’
