Gianluca Caruso named Newcomer of the Year 2018/19

TONI&GUY Educator Gianluca Caruso scoops Newcomer of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.

Celebrating the very best of home-grown hairdressing, the BHA’s brings together top hairdressing talent from across the country and is famed for being the biggest night in the hairdressing calendar. Gianluca Caruso, TONI&GUY Great Portland Street, was named Newcomer of the Year with his winning collection entitled I.D. He commented, “I.D. symbolises individuality and being able to stand out from the crowd. My goal was to create a collection that symbolises what I love most in this industry. I wanted to create something quirky, yet beautiful. I started by incorporating shapes into the hair which I love to do and looked to past editorial looks for inspiration”.

On being awarded the Newcomer title, Gianluca added, “Being amongst the best in this industry is a big honour for me and achieving this award is a life-long dream. It’s a result of hard work and constantly striving for better results. I have to say thank you to all those who really pushed me and always believed in me. I’d also like to thank the judges who understood my vision and appreciated my approach to hair”. – Gianluca Caruso, TONI&GUY Educator.

The BHA’s feature 16 categories in total: nine regional that cover all areas of the UK, six specialist which recognise the skills needed in specific areas, plus the highly coveted, most prestigious award: British Hairdresser of the Year.

Unlike other accolades, HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards is based on photographic entries that demonstrate the stylist or technician’s capable ability as well as creative flair.

The star-studded ceremony took place on Monday 26th November 2018 at London’s Grosvenor House on Park Lane. Hosted by Rylan Clark-Neale alongside HJ’s Executive Director, Jayne Lewis-Orr.

Commenting on the win, Jayne Lewis-Orr said; “To be named Newcomer of the Year is a tremendous achievement and one which Gianluca thoroughly deserves. The collection was fresh, exciting and full of drama – such a pleasure to view and I can’t wait to see how he progresses in his career.”

More than 1,500 gathered to recognise and reward hairdressers who are pushing the creative boundaries and make this industry one of which we can all be proud.
