Cutting Room Creative – Salon Biography

Cutting Room are celebrating their twenty third anniversary this year with the company originating in 1986. Since that very first day Cutting Room has grown into a multi-award winning salon at the forefront of the British hairdressing industry. This exciting team is fronted by three times Northern Winners of the British Hairdressing Awards, Charles and Karen Dodds.

Charles and Karen head the cutting room creative team as Creative Directors. They are a multi award winning pair, having won the title of North Western Hairdresser of the year in 2002, 2003 and 2004 resulting with their induction in to the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame in 2005. They have also won the Northern region of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy three times.

This extremely talented pair have been involved in some spectacular show work, having been on stage at the Royal Albert Hall after winning the Visionary Award in 2004. Their passion and creativity echoes through the entire Cutting Room team who they lead and inspire.

As a member of L’Oreal’s ID team, Joe has provided some exceptional seminars to other hairstylists nationwide. His session work with Central Saint Martins Graduate Show, and the recently completed London Graduate Fashion Week, saw him produce some amazing catwalk looks. Joe’s session work and success in winning the title of North Western Hairdresser of the Year at such a young age and in his first attempt has led to him being regarded as one of the best young hairdressers within the industry.

Cutting Room Creative enjoys a fantastic relationship with both TIGI and L’Oreal, which was recognized recently with the salon winning the Retail Salon of the Year Award at the British Hairdressing Business Awards. Cutting Room Creative has a fantastic award winning pedigree
and are winners of the Bedhead Hairdresser of the Year and Disposable Image Award within the acclaimed TIGI Awards. Further acclaim for Cutting Room came when Art Director Rick, finalised within Creative Head’s Most Wanted Fine Artist of the Year award at the age of 23, and found himself competing against some of the most renowned art directors within the industry.

Twenty-three year old Carly Aplin starting off on a work experience placement at Cutting Room Creative and has never looked back.

Her very first taste of competition success came in 2004 when she won the Talent spotting competition for L’Oreal. Winning this led to her being involved with a photo shoot in Majorca for leading trade magazine, prepping backstage at London Fashion Week, styling the stars for L’Oreal at the BAFTA’s, winning the Men’s North Eastern Regional L’Oreal Colour Trophy and competing in the L’Oreal Colour Trophy Final in London at the 50th anniversary all in the very same year. During that year Carly also completed her first year on the L’Oreal I.D program.

Carly is regarded as one of the hottest young talents emerging within the British hairdressing industry and believes the catalyst behind this reputation was her decision to join Cutting Room Creative, an award winning salon renowned for nurturing talent.

Cutting Room’s salon is one of the busiest within the country and is famed for its inspirational colour work. The salons reception and shop area is light, bright and welcoming, with three receptionists to attend to clients and shoppers. Products for both hair and make up are attractively displayed and clients are encouraged to browse, touch, smell and feel all the items on sale.

The waiting area is situated behind the reception area and allows clients to relax and watch the large plasma screen, showing Cutting Room TV, whilst waiting for their appointment. Launched in 2005 Cutting Room TV is the salons own TV show which plays on 40″ plasma’s around the salon. The station is jam packed full of programs showing the team up to all kinds of creative deeds, from shoots, to shows, to competitions
